Companion Workbook

I wrote this Companion Workbook to Life In Its Rawest Form to help empower you – no matter what your background – to overcome challenges from your past. Challenges that may be holding you back from achieving your best possible life.

Growing up, I dreamed of a better future, but I had no one in my life who could just hand it to me. So, it was up to me. I figured out how to plan for my future by setting goals for myself. And, one day at a time, I accomplished each goal.

How did I turn my dreams into plans, goals, and a better future? My “formula,” and how it can help you, is all laid out and waiting for you in the Companion Workbook

This workbook will be your “toolkit” to guide you in setting attainable goals and creating plans and strategies that give you power over your past.

I’m putting my tools into your hands

Use them, as instructed throughout the Companion Workbook, and watch how you’ll be making better decisions that will lead to a brighter future. Whether you’re a child, a youth, or an adult, you’ll learn how to proactively seek opportunities that will make your life better and improve your circumstances.

Others who will benefit from the Companion Workbook …

Family services agencies, educators, foster homes, group home staff and administrators, mentors, youth advocates, community outreach programs, those who work with disadvantaged youth, youth who are at risk, teen parents, drug-and alcohol-addicted parents, family members or friends of families battling drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Companion Workbook will help you help others to break away from destructive and disruptive influences that practically guarantee that the cycle repeats for yet another generation. It will help family and friends of drug- or alcohol-addicted loved ones know how to help them.

Companion Workbook:  7 chapters that will change your life (for the better)

Each chapter includes interactive exercises and information to inspire you, uplift you, and improve your situation and circumstances.

Chapter 1.  Families Battling Addiction

Chapter 1 discusses common issues and concerns that exist within families where one or both parents battle drug or alcohol addiction.

Exercises include defining how do their addiction(s) affect you? Express your thoughts and feelings, then share them with your parent(s). Make them aware of how their behavior affects your behavior. Share your hopes that they will change for the better.

Chapter 2.  Families In Transition

Chapter 2 focuses on making you aware of how transition will affect you and your family. We identify how family service professionals can help minimize the impact of the process. We also explore how to effectively cope with the changes you’ll experience.

In my book, Life In Its Rawest Form, I talk about my experiences and how they impacted my life. I describe my emotional rollercoaster, my challenges with living in temporary placement facilities, and the types of help I wished I’d had to manage my transition positively.

Chapter 3.  Teenage Pregnancy

Chapter 3 discusses opportunities for getting the help and support I wasn’t fortunate enough to have, to prevent or lessen chances of becoming an adolescent parent. We explore prevention methods, and, if you’re already an adolescent parent, we provide options that offer a brighter future. Some of the topics we’ll cover are:

Preventive Measures:

  • Ways to prevent teenage pregnancy
  • Love and relationships without sex
  • Ways to use time constructively

  • Acknowledge the reason(s) you became a parent
  • Understand the consequences
  • Know the impact on you and others

Defeating the Odds:

  • A plan for a brighter future
  • Better decision-making
  • Overcoming obstacles early on
  • Not letting your current situation define your future

Breaking the Cycle:

  • Dare to be different
  • Learn from your past
  • Be an example to others
  • Do not let your surroundings influence you

Chapter 4.  Setting Goals

Chapter 4’s main goal is to define goals – short- and long-term – and develop a plan for executing them.

What goes into achieving goals? Hard work and sacrifices. We also discuss that aspect.

Chapter 5.  Choosing The Right Role Model For You

It’s vitally important to your future to choose the right role model. Chapter 5 discusses good role models and not-so-good role models. You’ll learn how to distinguish between the two, and how to steer clear of the not-so-good ones. You’ll identify which qualities and characteristics to look for when deciding on the best role model for you.

Chapter 6.  Leaving The Past In The Past

Chapter 6 explores methods for effectively acknowledging and dealing with our past. We identify ways to live with our past without letting it create unhealthy behavior or post-traumatic stress.

Chapter 7.  Managing Your Emotions

Life doesn’t always happen the way we want it to happen. At times, we’re faced with situations that are out of our control and that challenge us to find solutions. Chapter 7 helps you to become aware of your emotions, identify with them, and create opportunities to manage them effectively. You’ll improve your life and the situation at hand.

The best part of owning Workbook Companion? You can use it more than once. Use it regularly, use it as a reference guide to track your progress. Share it with others, so they can know how they can help you.
